My Approach to Crisis Counselling

The Importance of a Strong Rapport with Your Counsellor

I appreciate that choosing a counsellor is an important and personal choice. You likely want to assure that there is a comfort level in understanding how I work, so that you can start to imagine how I may be able to help. Research shows that building a strong rapport with your counsellor is key to achieving a successful outcome in counselling (Leach, 2005). Itīs my goal to help you understand and feel comfortable with my approach to crisis counselling.

How I Do Things

Within my practice, I respect the strengths of clients by using proven counselling methods that reinforce their own efforts to become stronger and build satisfying lives. Helping individuals and their loved ones to amplify the realistic hope and specific strengths they need to break the hold of frustration, fear, and hopelessness sets the stage for strategies that can build up resilience.

As an individual begins to feel stronger and ever more resilient, it typically becomes significantly easier for that person to make important and inspiring breakthroughs. These gains often allow people to move confidently beyond crisis, and on to taking a series of significant steps towards building the life that they really want.

A Professional Who Works With You

There is more than one way to get to your destination. The specific counselling methods used are determined through collaboration with each client. However, there is also a direct relationship between the methods that we might discuss and the specific problem(s) that you are facing.
